Overview of the Kia Stinger

The Kia Stinger: A Bold and Distinctive Grand Tourer

When the Kia Stinger launched in the winter of 2017/18, it turned heads with its distinctive design and performance capabilities. Described as a Grand Tourer for long-distance motoring, the Stinger was a departure from Kia’s usual offerings.

Reviewers were impressed by the Stinger’s rear-drive chassis, a first for Kia, which showcased the brand’s commitment to producing engaging driver’s cars. The 3.3-litre turbo petrol engine, delivering 370hp, was a highlight for testers, with Carbuyer even suggesting it outperformed its Audi rival.

Despite its powerful engine, the Stinger was also praised for its extensive equipment and value for money. Loaded with features like wireless phone charging, a powered tailgate, and a top-level sound system, the Stinger offered a premium experience at a competitive price point.

However, the Stinger did have some drawbacks, such as a smaller boot compared to its rivals and intrusive stability and traction electronics. But overall, its distinctive looks and exclusivity won it a dedicated following.

Unfortunately, in November 2022, Kia announced that the Stinger would be permanently withdrawn from sale in the UK, marking the end of an era for this unique model. As of May 2024, the Stinger holds a Used Car Expert Rating of D, with average scores for safety, emissions, and running costs.
