Comparing the BMW i5 Touring and VW ID.7 Tourer: Which Electric Estate Car is the Better Buy?

Are you in the market for an electric estate car but unsure which model to choose? Look no further, as we compare two popular options: the BMW i5 Touring and the VW ID.7 Tourer. Both vehicles offer impressive features and performance, but which one is the better choice for you?

Let’s start with the basics. The BMW i5 Touring and the VW ID.7 Tourer both fall into the upper middle class category, offering ample space and comfort for passengers and cargo. The VW ID.7 Tourer is slightly larger in size, with a boot volume of 605 to 1,714 litres compared to the BMW’s 570 to 1,700 litres. However, the BMW has a higher towing capacity of 1,500 kilos compared to the VW’s 1,000 kg.

In terms of performance, the BMW i5 eDrive40 Touring and the VW ID.7 Pro Match Tourer are closely matched. Both models offer rear-wheel drive with the BMW boasting 340 PS and 430 Nm of torque, while the VW offers 286 PS and 545 Nm. The BMW has a faster acceleration time of 0-62 mph in 6.1 seconds compared to the VW’s 6.6 seconds, but the VW has a longer WLTP range of 374 miles compared to the BMW’s 326-342 miles.

When it comes to charging capabilities, both models offer similar DC charging speeds and power consumption. However, the VW ID.7 Tourer is almost £18,000 cheaper than the BMW i5 Touring, making it a more budget-friendly option.

In terms of equipment, the BMW offers more luxury features such as rear air suspension, automatic tailgate operation, adaptive lighting, and a heat pump. The VW, on the other hand, comes standard with automatic high beam, a keyless entry system, and a reversing camera. Both models offer optional extras such as a heat pump, adaptive dampers, and trailer coupling.

Ultimately, the decision between the BMW i5 Touring and the VW ID.7 Tourer comes down to personal preference and budget. If you value luxury features and are willing to pay a premium for them, the BMW may be the better choice for you. However, if you are looking for a more budget-friendly option with similar performance and range, the VW ID.7 Tourer is a solid choice.

Whichever model you choose, both the BMW i5 Touring and the VW ID.7 Tourer offer impressive performance, range, and features that make them stand out in the electric estate car market. Happy car shopping!
