EVA England Launches 2024 Manifesto to Drive Growth in Electric Vehicle Market in England
Trade association EVA England has set out its ambitious 2024 manifesto to drive growth in England’s electric vehicle (EV) market, addressing key priority areas that are crucial for the continued success of the industry.
The manifesto, launched in Westminster, focuses on five key pillars that aim to tackle barriers to EV adoption and promote a more sustainable future for transportation in England. These pillars include fairer charging costs, liberating charging provisions, lower insurance premiums, enforcing accessibility standards, and democratising EV uptake and driving demand.
One of the key issues highlighted in the manifesto is the need for fairer charging costs and provisions. EVA England is advocating for a reduction in the VAT applied to public charging, which currently stands at 20%, compared to the 5% applied to private charging. This discrepancy in VAT rates is seen as a major barrier to widespread EV adoption and must be addressed to make charging more affordable and accessible for all.
Another important pillar of the manifesto is the right to charge, which emphasizes the need to make it easier for people to charge their EVs at home and at work. By removing barriers such as limited charging infrastructure and lack of incentives for businesses to install chargers, EVA England aims to accelerate the adoption of EVs across all segments of society.
Furthermore, the manifesto highlights the importance of facilitating a just transition for EV adoption rates, particularly among middle-to-lower-income households. By introducing schemes such as salary sacrifice programs, targeted social leasing, and 0% loans, EVA England aims to make EVs more accessible to a wider range of consumers and drive demand for sustainable transportation options.
Despite challenges in the EV market, recent data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) shows that EV adoption rates continue to soar, with new EV registrations growing for the 21st consecutive month. However, there is still work to be done to meet government targets for EV market share and address barriers such as cost and charging infrastructure.
With the launch of its 2024 manifesto, EVA England is taking proactive steps to address these challenges and drive growth in England’s EV market. By focusing on key priority areas and advocating for policy changes that support EV adoption, EVA England is paving the way for a more sustainable and environmentally friendly transportation future in England.
