Overview of the Mercedes-AMG GT Coupé

In the world of luxury sports cars, the Mercedes-AMG GT Coupé made quite an impression when it hit the UK market in 2015. With its sleek design, powerful engine, and luxurious interior, it aimed to compete with the likes of the Audi R8 and Porsche 911. However, after being discontinued in 2023, it paved the way for an all-new model set to arrive in 2024.

The AMG GT was a standout model for Mercedes-AMG, being the second sports car developed entirely in-house by the team. It featured a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 engine, with the entry-level model producing an impressive 469hp. The high-performance GT R variant boasted an even more impressive 577hp, while the ultimate iteration, the GT Black Series, reached a whopping 720hp to compete with hypercars like the Porsche 911 GT2 RS.

Despite its performance capabilities and luxurious interior, the GT Coupé faced criticism for its driving dynamics compared to its rivals. Reviewers noted that the Porsche 911, for example, offered better handling and agility. Additionally, the GT Coupé was known for its high running costs, with every variant costing more than £100,000.

Overall, the Mercedes-AMG GT Coupé received positive reviews for its alluring exterior, strong performance, and sophisticated interior. However, its limitations in terms of handling, visibility, and practicality were also highlighted.

As of May 2024, the Mercedes-AMG GT Coupé holds a Used Car Expert Rating of E, with a score of 53%. Despite its high running costs and poor CO2 emissions, the GT Coupé still garnered praise for its engine performance and distinctive design.

In conclusion, the Mercedes-AMG GT Coupé may not have been perfect, but it certainly left a lasting impression in the world of luxury sports cars. With a new model on the horizon, it will be interesting to see how Mercedes-AMG continues to innovate and compete in this competitive market segment.
