Drivers in the hospitality industry face highest car insurance costs in the UK, research reveals
Are you a driver in the hospitality industry? If so, you may be feeling the pinch when it comes to car insurance costs. According to recent research by Vanarama, drivers in the hospitality industry have the most expensive insurance costs out of the UK’s 100 most common job roles.
Insurance companies typically consider professions where the driver is on the road for longer periods of time to be high risk, as they are more likely to be involved in an accident. This is why drivers in the hospitality industry pay the highest annual cost of £479.80 ($630).
Surprisingly, professions like chefs, hairdressers, bar staff, and fitness instructors also make up the top five list of highest insurance costs. These individuals may not consider their professions to be particularly risky, yet they are still faced with high insurance premiums.
On the other end of the spectrum, mechanics have the cheapest annual car insurance costs out of the 100 job roles analyzed, at just £298.61 a year. This may be due to the nature of their work, as insurance companies may expect mechanics to drive in a considerate way that wouldn’t damage the vehicle.
Interestingly, the research also found that on average, it now costs women more to insure their car than men – by £15.33 per year. Vanarama grouped each profession into different sectors of industry and compared the average costs of car insurance for a 1.5L Volkswagen Golf to figures from the Office of National Statistics to determine this gender bias.
So, if you’re a driver in the hospitality industry or one of the other high-cost professions, it may be worth exploring ways to keep your car insurance costs low. Whether it’s shopping around for quotes, taking a defensive driving course, or bundling your insurance policies, there are options available to help you save money on your premiums. Stay safe on the road and drive responsibly to keep those insurance costs in check.
