Kia Achieves Record Monthly Sales with EV9 and Sportage SUVs in May
The all-electric EV9 three-row SUV from Kia has been making waves in the automotive industry, with sales increasing for the second straight month. This surge in popularity has led to Kia’s highest EV monthly sales in history, marking a significant milestone for the company.
In addition to the success of the EV9, other Kia models such as the Sportage, Telluride, Carnival, EV6, and Niro also hit all-time sales records in May. This impressive performance has solidified Kia’s position as a leader in the electric vehicle and SUV market.
The EV9, in particular, saw a 39% increase in sales month-on-month, with 2,187 units sold in May. This marks the best-ever monthly sales for the EV9 and the second consecutive month of sales growth. Overall, Kia’s EV sales grew by 127% year-on-year, reaching 7,197 units, the highest EV monthly sales ever for the company.
The Sportage, Kia’s best-selling model year-to-date in 2024, set a new monthly sales record with 15,512 units sold in May. The Telluride, Carnival, EV6, and Niro also contributed to Kia’s best-ever utility monthly sales, with sales of utility models accounting for 80% of total sales for the month.
Eric Watson, vice president of sales operations at Kia America, attributed the company’s sales growth to its balanced mix of electric, hybrid, and ICE models that meet customer demands. With strong vehicle supply and continued development of models in line with consumer needs, Kia expects to see increased showroom traffic and transactions through dealers.
In addition to the impressive sales performance, Kia America announced several initiatives, including the global debut of the upcoming all-electric Kia EV3 compact SUV and the start of U.S. production of the all-electric EV9 SUV at the Kia Georgia manufacturing plant. The EV9 has also received accolades, winning awards such as the “Outdoor Utility Vehicle” and “Three-Row Family SUV” at the 2024 Northwest Automotive Press Association Mudfest event.
