Uber Introduces New Feature for Greener Choices: Order a Hybrid or Electric Car
Are you looking to make greener choices when it comes to your transportation options? Well, Uber has just made it easier for you to do so with their new feature on the app that allows riders to order a hybrid or electric car.
This new initiative, called ‘Rider Emissions Savings,’ gives passengers the option to choose between Uber Green and Comfort Electric. With Uber Green, you can ride in an electric or hybrid vehicle at the same cost as an ordinary UberX ride. On the other hand, Comfort Electric offers riders the chance to be picked up in a fully-electric car that has completed 100 rides and maintained a rating of 4.85 stars.
Not only will you be reducing your carbon footprint by choosing these sustainable options, but you’ll also be able to see the amount of CO2 emissions you’ve saved on the app. This feature calculates the emissions saved based on the amount of tailpipe emissions avoided compared to a trip on UberX or Uber Comfort.
Anna Brito, head of Sustainability, Strategy, and Planning at Uber Australia and New Zealand, expressed the company’s commitment to making it easier for Aussies to make greener choices. With Australians already taking 1.8 million EV trips in more than 4,000 EV Ubers in the first quarter of 2024, it’s clear that the demand for sustainable transportation options is on the rise.
Research has shown that more than half of Australian drivers intend to purchase a new car in the next year, with up to 30% planning to buy an electric model and 20% opting for a hybrid car. The main reasons behind these choices include potential fuel savings, environmental benefits, and energy efficiency.
While the rising cost of living and high purchase prices for electric cars may be drawbacks, government incentives and rebates are helping to make these options more accessible to consumers. With electric car sales on the rise and more Australians considering greener transportation options, it’s clear that the future of transportation is looking brighter and more sustainable.
So, next time you’re booking an Uber ride, why not choose a hybrid or electric option and do your part in reducing emissions and making greener choices for the planet? Your ride can make a difference, one trip at a time.
