Analysis of UK’s New Light-Commercial Vehicle Market Growth in May 2024
The UK’s new light-commercial vehicle (LCV) market is on a winning streak, with Ford leading the charge. In May, the market saw its 17th consecutive month of growth, with Ford dominating the registration tables. The Transit Custom, Transit, and Ranger took the top three spots, showcasing Ford’s strong presence in the LCV market.
Overall registrations rose by 1.9% year on year, with BEV volumes also increasing by 3.5% compared to the previous year. This growth was seen across all sectors, except for vans between 2.5 and 3.5 tonnes GVW, which experienced a slight decline in deliveries.
The BEV market in the UK is showing signs of growth, with VW leading the way in May. The ID.Buzz Cargo was the best-selling all-electric LCV, with Peugeot, Vauxhall, Ford, and Citroen following closely behind. However, there is still uncertainty surrounding the integration of BEVs into operational processes, especially with the upcoming general election in the UK.
On the used LCV front, buyers are becoming more cautious, leading to softer prices and decreased sales in May. Euro 6 vehicles made up the majority of the market, with average selling prices dropping slightly. The average age and mileage of used LCVs also saw some changes compared to the previous month.
Overall, the LCV market in the UK is showing resilience and growth, with Ford leading the way in registrations and VW making strides in the BEV segment. As the market continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how buyers and manufacturers adapt to the changing landscape of commercial vehicles.
