Honda Confirms Production of Prelude Concept as Gas-Electric Hybrid Sports Car

Exciting news for Honda fans and sports car enthusiasts alike as Honda has officially confirmed the production of the Prelude Concept, set to be a gas-electric hybrid sports car. This marks the return of the iconic Prelude model after a 24-year hiatus, succeeding the Accord and Civic coupes. The new Prelude is aimed at competing with the Toyota GR86, Subaru BRZ, and Mazda MX-5 Miata, showcasing Honda’s commitment to hybrid technology and electrification.

With the Prelude Concept being the first Honda hybrid sports car in over two decades, it signifies a significant milestone for the brand as they celebrate 25 years of producing hybrid vehicles. The new Prelude will feature a gas-electric hybrid powertrain, potentially utilizing the same system found in other Honda hybrid models like the CR-V, Accord, and Civic Hybrid. This move aligns with Honda’s strategy towards electrification and showcases their dedication to creating fun and attractive hybrid vehicles.

Not much is known about the production version of the Prelude Concept yet, but it is expected to incorporate iconic engineering choices that have defined Honda’s reputation for building sporty and excellent-handling vehicles. The new Prelude will feature a double-wishbone front suspension arrangement and a lightweight aluminum subframe, enhancing ride and handling performance.

As Honda’s Chief Engineer and Large Project Leader, Tomoyuki Yamagami, stated, “The Prelude not only marks the latest chapter in our ever-evolving hybrid story, it is also the product of 25 years of pioneering hybrid research and development.” The Prelude represents Honda’s commitment to hybrid powertrains as part of their automobile electrification strategy, paving the way for a future where 100% of new vehicle sales will be battery electric or hydrogen fuel cell by 2040.

Overall, the return of the Prelude Concept as a gas-electric hybrid sports car signifies Honda’s dedication to innovation, performance, and sustainability. With its rich history in hybrid technology and a renewed focus on electrification, Honda is set to make a significant impact in the sports car market with the new Prelude model.
