The MG Cyber GTS: A New Electric Sports Car Unveiled at Goodwood Festival of Speed 2024

The automotive world is abuzz with excitement as SAIC Motor Corp’s MG brand unveils its latest creation, the MG Cyber GTS, at the prestigious Goodwood Festival of Speed 2024 in the UK. This two-door, four-seat hardtop sports car is set to make waves in the electric sports car market, following the success of the MG Cyberster launched last November.

Shao Jingfeng, design president of SAIC Motor R&D Innovation Headquarters, took to Weibo to announce the official unveiling of the MG Cyber GTS at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. With nine stunning images shared, it’s clear that this electric sports car is a sight to behold.

The Goodwood Festival of Speed, established in 1993, is renowned as one of the world’s premier motorsports festivals. This year’s event, running from July 11-14, promises to showcase a range of cutting-edge models, including the U9 electric supercar from BYD’s ultra-luxury brand Yangwang.

The MG Cyber GTS concept is teased in a video shared by Shao on Weibo, hinting at a sleek and powerful design that embodies the spirit of a true sports car. Building on the success of the MG Cyberster, which offers affordability and performance in equal measure, the Cyber GTS is poised to set a new standard in the electric sports car segment.

Powered by the MG Cyber Cube platform, the MG Cyberster boasts impressive performance figures, with the top variant featuring dual electric motors delivering 400 kW of power and 725 Nm of torque. This allows for a blistering 0-100 km/h acceleration time of just 3.2 seconds, showcasing the car’s performance pedigree.

However, SAIC is facing challenges in Europe, with additional tariffs impacting its operations in the region. The European Commission’s decision to impose higher tariffs on EVs from China has prompted SAIC to defend its position, citing the unfairness of the anti-subsidy investigation.

As the automotive industry continues to evolve, the MG Cyber GTS represents a bold step forward in the electric sports car market. With its striking design, impressive performance, and commitment to innovation, this new model is sure to capture the hearts of enthusiasts around the world.
