10th Annual Classic Car Show Raises Over £35,000 for Charity
The Classic Car Show, organized by the Bury Abbey Rotary Club, recently made a triumphant return for its 10th event, raising an impressive £35,000 for charity. The event, which took place at Culford School in Bury St Edmunds, attracted between 5,000 and 6,000 attendees and showcased nearly 600 classic cars.
Peter Summers, show team leader, expressed his excitement about the success of the event, stating, “It was amazing, we had a very busy show – it was our busiest ever. A whole Sunday without rain made for a beautiful day for exhibitors and visitors alike – we couldn’t believe our luck with the blue skies and sunshine.”
The event would not have been possible without the support of Culford School and the dedicated volunteers from Rotary in East Anglia, the USAF, and other organizations across the region. Summers also highlighted the hard work and dedication that goes into organizing such an event, with six months of preparation leading up to the big day.
Over the years, the Rotary Club has raised more than £150,000 for various charities, with this year’s funds primarily benefiting East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH). This year’s event set a new record for the highest amount raised since it began in 2014, when it was held in Elveden.
Attendees were treated to a stunning display of classic sports cars, muscle cars, vintage convertibles, luxury sedans, and rare exotic cars. Some of the stand-out vehicles included a Holbrook tractor from Lakenheath, a 1931 Chevrolet 1/2 ton pickup truck, and a 360 Spider owned by Mark Munnings.
While the final amount raised is yet to be revealed, the success of this year’s Classic Car Show is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the organizers, volunteers, and attendees. The event not only celebrates the beauty and history of classic cars but also makes a meaningful impact on the community through its charitable contributions.
