Amazon Prime announces premiere date for A Very Royal Scandal drama featuring Michael Sheen and Ruth Wilson
Are you ready for a royal scandal? Amazon Prime has just released new first-look images of the upcoming drama “A Very Royal Scandal,” set to premiere on September 19th exclusively on Prime Video in the UK, US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. The three-part series will retell the story of Prince Andrew’s infamous ‘car crash’ interview, with Michael Sheen starring as the Duke of York and Ruth Wilson as journalist Emily Maitlis.
The new stills show the actors in character, with Michael sporting the Duke of York’s signature white hair and Ruth almost unrecognizable in a blonde wig. The series, produced by Amazon MGM Studios, will focus more on Emily Maitlis and her journey as a Newsnight journalist leading up to the groundbreaking interview with Prince Andrew.
In an interview, Emily Maitlis herself commented on the rivalry between the Amazon and Netflix projects, stating that there is room for both and that the Amazon series will be a different beast altogether. Netflix’s version, titled “Scoop,” was based on a book and followed a BBC producer’s quest to secure an interview with Prince Andrew, played by Rufus Sewell.
With stellar performances from the cast, including Joanna Scanlan, Alex Jennings, and Gillian Anderson as Emily Maitlis, “A Very Royal Scandal” promises to be a gripping and dramatic retelling of a moment that shook the royal family and the world. Don’t miss out on this must-watch series premiering soon on Amazon Prime Video!
