Powering Ahead: Electric Vehicle Cable Charging Trial in Retford

Nottinghamshire County Council is leading the way in sustainable transportation with the Electric Vehicle Charging Cable (EVCC) Pilot scheme, now making its mark in Retford. This innovative trial aims to provide solutions for residents without driveways to conveniently charge their electric vehicles right outside their homes.

The government-funded scheme is set to run until early next year, with the goal of exploring various charging options for electric vehicles on the street. Following successful installations in other parts of the county, Retford saw its first cable channel installed at the home of Nigel Henderson, a proud owner of an electric vehicle.

Nigel shared his excitement about the new charging channel, stating, “On my street, most houses do not have off-road parking, so my new electric vehicle charging channel is a game-changer. It makes charging my plug-in hybrid car a breeze and helps me reduce my use of petrol, which helps the environment.”

Councillor Neil Clarke MBE, Cabinet Member for Transport and Environment at Nottinghamshire County Council, expressed his delight at the positive impact of the EV cable charging trial. He emphasized the importance of adapting to the electric vehicle transition and the significance of providing accessible charging solutions for residents.

The trial aligns with Nottinghamshire’s commitment to promoting electric vehicle adoption and reducing carbon emissions. By expanding home charging facilities across the county, the council aims to encourage more residents to make the switch to electric vehicles and embrace green technologies.

Installing the cable channel involves cutting a groove into the footway outside residents’ homes, eliminating the need to lay the charging cable on the pavement. This innovative approach not only simplifies the charging process but also contributes to a cleaner and more sustainable environment.

Residents in Nottinghamshire who own or plan to own an electric vehicle and lack off-street parking are encouraged to apply for the scheme. By completing an online form on the Via website, eligible residents can have a cable channel installed free of charge, paving the way for a greener future.

Join the movement towards sustainable transportation and be part of the electric vehicle revolution in Retford. Embrace the convenience and environmental benefits of EV charging cable channels, and drive towards a cleaner, greener future.
