BMW UK and New Forest National Park Authority Partner to Enhance EV Charging Network and Support Conservation Initiatives

Are you a nature lover who also cares about sustainability and the environment? If so, you’ll be thrilled to hear about the exciting partnership between the New Forest National Park Authority and BMW UK. This collaboration is not only making strides in enhancing the EV charging network but also supporting the local community and inspiring young people to connect with nature.

The installation of a new twin electric vehicle charging point in the Jubilee Field Car Park in Sway is a significant milestone in the Recharge in Nature Project. This project aims to install EV charge points across all 15 UK National Parks, providing better access to these precious wild landscapes for eco-conscious drivers. With over 100 million visits to the UK’s National Parks each year, the need for sustainable travel options is more important than ever.

BMW UK’s Corporate Communications Director, Graham Biggs, emphasizes the importance of a fully-fledged EV charging infrastructure in decarbonizing travel and tourism. With EVs accounting for over 18% of the UK’s new car sales, the demand for them is growing rapidly. By investing in rural EV chargers, BMW UK is not only reducing driving emissions but also noise and air pollution in and around the nation’s beauty spots.

But the partnership doesn’t stop at installing charging points. BMW UK is also funding nature and community impact projects in the New Forest National Park. This includes supporting apprentice rangers who are gaining practical experience in environmental conservation and funding a Youth Action Programme to connect young people with nature and inspire them to protect it.

Chair of the New Forest National Park Authority, David Bence, highlights the importance of protecting the New Forest for future generations and encouraging lower emission journey options. By investing in the local community and connecting young people with the ancient landscapes of the National Park, BMW UK is paving the way for a more sustainable future.

The BMW Group has set clear CO2 reduction targets and is committed to sustainability across its entire value chain. By joining the Business Ambition for 1.5°C, the company is working towards full climate neutrality by 2050. This commitment to sustainability aligns perfectly with the goals of the Recharge in Nature partnership.
