How to Claim Back Extra Delivery Charges for Late Supermarket Orders
Have you ever had your supermarket shopping delivery turn up late? If so, you may have missed out on claiming back the extra you paid for a specific delivery slot. But don’t worry, now you know for the future!
According to consumer group Which, if you paid extra for a special delivery and your order arrived later than agreed, you can claim back the extra delivery cost as the service wasn’t delivered as promised. This is backed up by S49 of the Consumer Rights Act 2015, which states that every contract to supply a service must be performed with reasonable care and skill.
Scott Dixon from The Complaints Resolver explains that late delivery is considered a breach of contract under the Consumer Rights Act, and you have the right to request a refund of the delivery charge. He advises contacting customer services and being polite about it to increase your chances of a positive outcome.
One member of the Money team recently experienced a late delivery and was able to get a refund of the delivery charge from Tesco without much hassle. Other supermarkets like Asda, Ocado, Morrisons, and Waitrose also have policies in place for refunding delivery charges in case of delays.
Regardless of the supermarket’s policy, it’s worth pushing politely for a refund as the law is on your side. So next time your delivery is late, don’t hesitate to reach out to customer service and claim back what you’re owed. Happy shopping!
