“Kia Sportage Leads June Sales, Ford Puma Still Tops Annual Best-Sellers List”
The battle for the top spot in the UK car sales market continues to heat up as the Kia Sportage and Ford Puma go head to head. While the Kia Sportage topped the monthly sales charts in June, the Ford Puma still holds the lead in the annual best-sellers list.
According to data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), the overall new car market saw a modest 1% growth in June compared to the same month last year. However, private new car sales have continued to decline, dropping by 15% year-on-year in June.
The Ford Puma, which won the 2023 sales race, has maintained its position at the top of the annual leaderboard in 2024. Despite not finishing first in May or June, the Kia Sportage is hot on its heels, closing the sales gap with strong performances in recent months. The Nissan Qashqai holds onto third place after finishing seventh in the last two monthly rankings.
The June sales race was a close one, with only 1,000 new registrations separating the top ten cars. Tesla had a strong showing in June, with both the Model Y and Model 3 making it into the top ten for the first time in several months.
Other consistent performers in the top ten include the Volkswagen Golf, BMW 1 Series, and Hyundai Tucson. The Audi A3, which was absent from the June top ten, falls one place in the annual rankings as a result. The surprise performer in June was the Nissan Juke, which jumped two places in the 2024 leaderboard after a second-place finish.
As we look ahead to the rest of the year, the competition in the UK car market is sure to intensify. Will the Ford Puma maintain its lead, or will the Kia Sportage overtake it? Stay tuned for the July registration results to see how the rankings shift in the coming months.
