RBW EV Cars to Establish $8 Million Manufacturing Facility in Danville, VA
The United Kingdom’s Only Manufacturer of Hand-Built Electric Sports Cars is Coming to Virginia!
Exciting news for car enthusiasts and job seekers alike – RBW EV Cars, the UK’s only manufacturer of hand-built electric sports cars, is investing $8 million to establish a manufacturing facility in Virginia. This new facility, located in an industrial park jointly owned by Danville and Pittsylvania County, will create 144 jobs and is set to start operations early next year.
RBW EV Cars, established in 2017, is known for building electric systems that can be applied to classic cars. The company currently employs about 50 people and has operations in Europe, Asia, and Bermuda. The new facility in Virginia will be the company’s first in the U.S. and will produce left-hand drive electric classic sports cars for the American market.
The Roadster and GT models, with starting prices of $139,000 and $151,000 respectively, made their U.S. debut last week at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in California. These electric vehicles are based on iconic British sports cars from the 1960s and 1970s and are the first production models from RBW to be purposely built for the U.S. market.
The decision to locate in Virginia highlights the region’s strength in workforce and appeal for high-tech manufacturing. Danville Mayor Alonzo Jones and economic development director Matt Rowe both expressed excitement about the company’s choice to establish their facility in Southside Virginia.
The Virginia Economic Development Partnership, along with local authorities, worked together to secure this project, with Governor Glenn Youngkin approving a $500,000 grant from the Commonwealth’s Opportunity Fund to assist with the development. Youngkin praised RBW Sports & Classics for helping to put Virginia on the map for cutting-edge industry and job opportunities.
This investment in Virginia’s manufacturing sector is a significant step forward for the region, which has historically relied on agriculture and textiles. The arrival of RBW EV Cars signifies a shift towards high-tech and international manufacturing, bringing new opportunities and economic growth to the area.
As the region continues to attract EV-related projects, there is optimism for further development and job creation in the coming months. With the support of local authorities and the state government, Virginia is poised to become a hub for innovative and sustainable manufacturing in the automotive industry.
