The Cost of Insuring the British Royal Family’s Prestigious Cars: A Comparison of Policies

Are you curious about how much it costs to insure the British royal family’s prestigious car collection? Well, you’re in for a royal treat! Rivervale Leasing recently compared over 900 quotes using imagined profiles of seven members of the British monarchy, and the results are quite fascinating.

First up, we have Prince Philip, who takes the crown for the most expensive royal to insure. With insurance quotes for his Land Rover Freelander reaching up to an incredible £9,900 per year, it’s no surprise that his policy is the priciest in the royal roundup. Despite giving up his driving license after a car crash in 2019, the 99-year-old Duke was still spotted behind the wheel near Windsor Castle a few months later.

Next in line is the Queen herself, who, as the only person in the UK who doesn’t need a driving license, still requires insurance for her Jaguar Daimler V8 Super LWB. Her policy could cost up to £9,500 per year, with only 2% of providers willing to cover the 94-year-old monarch.

Prince William follows closely behind with his Range Rover SDV8 Autobiography, coming in at a hefty £8,100 per year for insurance. And while the Duke of Cambridge may not have many options when it comes to shopping around for coverage, just 6% of providers would offer him a policy.

Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, opts for a Land Rover Discovery, which could set her back £7,900 annually for insurance. Fortunately, she has slightly more options than other royals, with 12% of providers willing to cover her.

Prince Harry, known for his advocacy for climate change, recently purchased an Audi e-tron 55. His insurance policy would cost £5,300 per year, with 36% of providers offering coverage. Meghan Markle, on the other hand, proves to be the cheapest royal to insure at £4,300 annually, with a quarter of insurers providing cover for her.

As for Prince Charles, he may need to seek out a specialist provider for his vintage Aston Martin DB6, as no standard insurer could provide him with a policy. The technicalities of vintage cars and insurers’ need for data make it challenging to find coverage for such unique vehicles.

In conclusion, while the royal family may have access to luxurious cars, insuring them comes at a royal price. With limited options and higher premiums inevitable for well-known personalities, the royals may not be able to cut their premiums by much. So, next time you see a member of the British monarchy cruising in their fancy car, just remember the cost of keeping it insured!
