“Get Ready for University: Tap the App for National Insurance and Tax Information for Student Finance Applications”
Are you a student starting university in September and in need of financial assistance? Look no further! HMRC is making it easier than ever for students to access their National Insurance and tax information to complete their student finance applications.
According to HMRC data, over 112,000 customers called the National Insurance Helpline in the past year to retrieve their lost or forgotten NI number, with nearly half of those calls coming from customers aged between 16 and 20. May was the busiest month, with over 6,400 young people calling for their NI number, coinciding with students applying for their student loans.
Suzanne Newton, HMRC’s Director General for Change Delivery, encourages students to take advantage of the HMRC app to quickly and easily access their NI number and other essential details needed for their finance applications. In addition to their NI number, students will also need a working email address, a bank account in their own name, a valid UK passport, and course details.
It’s important for parents or partners of students to have their NI number on hand as well. Any missing details in the application could cause delays in receiving loan payments in time for the start of the students’ course. Bill Watkin, Chief Executive of the Sixth Form Colleges Association, emphasizes that downloading details from the HMRC app will streamline the process of applying for a student loan and reduce the administrative burden on young people.
Don’t let financial worries hold you back from pursuing higher education. Take the first step towards securing your student finance by tapping the app and getting the information you need to kickstart your academic journey. Visit GOV.UK for more information and start your application today!
