Volklec Launches in the UK to Develop Bespoke Batteries for Electric Vehicles
The electrification of vehicles is a crucial step towards reducing carbon emissions and combating climate change. With the rise of electric vehicles (EVs) on the roads, the demand for high-quality batteries is higher than ever. That’s where Volklec comes in.
Volklec, a new UK manufacturing business, has recently launched in Coventry, with the goal of developing batteries specifically tailored to meet the needs of the UK automotive market. Backed by the Frontive Group, Volklec is set to play a key role in powering electrified mobility for on-road, off-highway, and track vehicles.
One of the key partnerships that Volklec has established is with the UK Battery Industrialisation Centre (UKBIC), a national manufacturing development scale-up facility. This collaboration will not only ensure that Volklec’s batteries meet the bespoke requirements of the UK automotive market but also provide valuable skills and expertise for the growing EV battery sector.
Imran Khatri, the founder of Volklec, emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting the UK’s decarbonization efforts. By focusing on the automotive industry initially and then expanding into broader electrification markets, Volklec aims to provide security of supply to the sector while contributing to the country’s transition towards Net Zero.
Sean Gilgunn, the managing director of UKBIC, expressed his excitement about the partnership with Volklec and the potential for scaling up battery production in the coming years. Manufacturing cells at volume is essential for the UK to prosper from the energy transition, and Volklec’s collaboration with UKBIC highlights the unique value of the facility to the battery ecosystem.
Overall, Volklec’s launch is a significant step forward in the UK’s journey towards sustainable transportation. By developing high-quality batteries tailored to the specific needs of the UK market, Volklec is poised to make a positive impact on the automotive industry and contribute to building world-class battery R&D and manufacturing capability in the UK.
