CamMotive Unveils New Hydrogen Fuel Cell Testing Capability at State-of-the-Art Laboratory

The future of transportation is looking greener than ever with the development of hydrogen fuel cell technologies. CamMotive, a leading E-powertrain development consultancy, has recently unveiled a new state-of-the-art laboratory in Cambridge, UK, dedicated to testing and optimizing the next generation of hydrogen fuel cell technologies for various applications.

With a focus on sustainability and efficiency, CamMotive’s new test site is capable of evaluating hydrogen fuel cell systems up to 150kW, with potential to accommodate even larger systems. The facility is equipped with bespoke software to control the test environment and measure key metrics such as electrical power output, thermal output, hydrogen usage, and emissions. This data is crucial for evaluating component behavior and overall system performance, allowing for optimization in efficiency, transient response, safety, and service life.

One of the key projects that spurred the development of this test facility is CamMotive’s involvement in a consortium led by Ford to build hydrogen fuel cell versions of its electric E-Transit commercial vehicle. The FCVGen2.0 project, part funded by the UK Government, aims to create a small fleet of prototype hydrogen fuel cell vehicles for various transportation applications.

By being part of this consortium, CamMotive has gained valuable industry expertise that has accelerated the development of their fuel cell test capability. This not only benefits the project but also positions CamMotive as a key player in the wider hydrogen fuel cell market in the UK and beyond.

As an independent powertrain testing specialist, CamMotive works with automotive manufacturers, OEMs, and research institutions to validate, optimize, and develop electric vehicle technologies. Their hydrogen infrastructure will also support the development of hydrogen combustion engine technology through their sister company, Cambustion.

With the unveiling of this new hydrogen fuel cell testing facility, CamMotive is at the forefront of driving innovation in sustainable transportation solutions. The future of hydrogen fuel cell technology looks promising, and CamMotive is leading the way towards a greener and more efficient future.
