Renault Expects Electric and Hybrid Car Sales to Double in 2021, Sources Say
The race towards cleaner driving is heating up, and France’s Renault is ready to take on the challenge. According to sources close to the company, Renault is expecting its sales of electric and hybrid cars to more than double to 350,000 in 2021. This ambitious goal comes as automakers around the world are shifting towards battery-powered vehicles to meet tougher emissions regulations.
Renault’s plan for 2021 includes selling around 150,000 fully electric vehicles and approximately 200,000 hybrid models. This push towards electrification is part of Renault’s broader strategy to boost profitability and focus on sustainable mobility under the leadership of CEO Luca de Meo.
While Renault has been a pioneer in developing electric cars, competition in the market is fierce. UBS analysts have highlighted Volkswagen and Tesla as leaders in the electric vehicle category, with other major players like Toyota not far behind. The analysts also suggest that automakers selling fewer than 750,000 electrified cars per year may struggle in the long run.
Volkswagen, Renault’s key competitor, is also ramping up its electric vehicle efforts. The German automaker recently announced that fully electric vehicles are expected to make up more than 70% of its core Volkswagen brand’s total European vehicle sales by 2030. This shift in focus towards electric vehicles reflects the growing demand for cleaner and more sustainable transportation options.
As the automotive industry continues to evolve, Renault is positioning itself to be a major player in the electric vehicle market. With ambitious sales targets and a commitment to sustainability, Renault is ready to drive towards a greener future.
